Every year many people in the Inuit villages die because they fall in the water. Last year two people died in my village from falling in the water. Two years ago my sister fell in the water but I am happy to say she was saved by her friend. Inuit people a long time ago made up the story of the Qallupilluit people. These people were monsters that lived under the Hudson Bay ice and would steal children if they went on the ice without their mom or dads. This was to scare the kids to not do that. There are lots of stories about the Qallupilluit. They are my favourite stories so I decided to write my own. I hope my little brother will read it when he is older and never go on the Hudson Bay ice. I wrote my story in English at school after reading a book called “A Promise is a Promise” by Robert Munsch and my mom helped me translate it into our native language, Inuktitut.
